Científicos japoneses han desarrollado una vacuna oral contra el Alzheimer, la cual ya se demostró que es eficaz y a la vez segura en ratones, esto según Takeshi Tabira, director del Instituto Nacional para las Ciencias de la Longevidad en Aichi, el cual lleva a cabo el proyecto.Ya se tiene pensado llevar a cabo el experimento en humanos, para observar si funciona en nuestro organismo, "esperamos que la primera fase vaya bien", comenta Takeshi Tabira.
"Los animales pueden recuperar sus funciones tras desarrollar síntomas, pero los humanos son menos capaces de hacerlo. Puede ser que esto sólo funcione en las primeras fases de la enfermedad, cuando los síntomas son ligeros", termina Takeshi. Al aplicar la vacuna a los ratones con la enfermedad de Alzheimer, estos mejoraron su función mental, la razón es que se redujo la cantidad de placas de amiloideo en el cerebro, a estas placas se les atribuye la enfermedad
La vacuna se creó insertando genes productores de amiloideo en virus no dañinos, después se ingiere de manera oral, lo que produce una reacción en el sistema inmunológico para atacar y doblegar a las proteínas de amiloideo en el cerebro.
